For kids who would rather do anything than read
Books for kids who hate reading.
You have tried the library pile, the sticker chart, the bribes. If your kid still groans the second a book appears, they are not broken and neither are you. They just have not met a book that is short enough, fun enough, and about them. That is the whole idea behind Page Monsters.
Make a personalised reader
Why reluctant readers stall (and what fixes it)
A reluctant reader is almost always a kid who has decided reading is hard, boring, or not for them. Change those three things and most kids come back.
The book is boring, or it is too hard.
Most kids who say they hate reading do not hate reading. They hate feeling stuck. If every word is a battle, of course they would rather build Lego. We fix the difficulty first.
It is about nothing they care about.
A reader about a cat on a mat does not stand a chance against a kid obsessed with dinosaurs or soccer. We build the story around the thing they already love, so they actually want to turn the page.
They cannot find themselves in it.
When your kid is the hero (their name, their hair, their eyes), the whole thing changes. Suddenly it is their book, their adventure, and reading it is the fun part, not the chore.
Another screen is not the answer.
Reading apps add one more thing to fight about at bedtime. Ours is a real little book you print and staple. No login, no battery, no begging for five more minutes.
Made for the kids who find reading hard
Page Monsters readers are short, funny and decodable, with your child as the hero. Parents reach for them when their kid is:
- A reluctant reader who avoids books
- A kid with ADHD who cannot sit through a long page
- Easily distracted and needs a quick win
- Losing confidence and saying “I can’t read”
- Bored by readers that are too babyish
- Ready to sound words out but needs the right level
Page Monsters is a confidence and motivation tool, not a clinical treatment. If you suspect dyslexia or another reading difficulty, your school or a specialist can assess your child. Decodable, low-pressure books like these are a friendly thing to have alongside that support.
How Page Monsters gets them reading
Pick their obsession
Dinosaurs, soccer, space, pirates and more. We build the story around what they already love.
We match the level
Every word uses only the sounds they have been taught, so reading feels winnable, not impossible.
Print and hand it over
A real little book, starring them. Fold, staple, done. No app, no screen, no fight.
Questions from other parents
Will this actually work for a reluctant reader?
No book works by magic, but we stack the odds. The story is about something your kid is already into, every word is matched to the sounds they have been taught so they are not constantly stuck, and they are the hero of it. Short, winnable, and about them. That combination is what gets a reluctant reader to pick a book up on their own.
My child has ADHD and cannot sit still for a normal book. Is this different?
Yes. Page Monsters readers are short, fast, and funny by design, so there is a payoff on every page instead of a wall of text. Because your kid is the main character and the topic is their current obsession, the book holds attention that a generic reader cannot. Plenty of parents of kids with ADHD or who find focus hard tell us the personalised, bite-sized format is what finally clicked.
Is it decodable, or just personalised?
Both. The reading text is built only from the letter sounds matched to your child's level, mapped to the NSW Literacy Continuum, so they can actually sound the words out. We never put your kid's name in the reading text. It lives on the cover, the dedication and the speech bubbles, so it never breaks the phonics.
What age or level is it for?
It is built for kids learning to read, roughly Kindergarten to Year 2, across six levels from first letter sounds up to chapter-style adventures. Not sure where your child sits? Use our quick reading level finder and we will place them.
Do you need a photo of my child?
Never. You build the hero from a few simple choices: hair, eyes, skin tone, glasses or no glasses. No photo uploads, which keeps things simple and safe.
Give them a book they will actually open.
